Football and the use of technology

Hi everybody. I created a blog as I wished to express my views on the idea of the usage of technology in football today. There have been many incidents over recent years that have suggested that football may need to follow in the footsteps of such sports like rugby and cricket in bringing the use of technology i.e cameras, into the game.
Incorrect decisions that could decide the result of the match are occurring all too often. Clubs have agreed to take part in a 'Respect' campaign for referees which I do believe is needed. However how can anyone respect referees who make such catastrophic decisions that can cost clubs dearly in their bid to win promotion, win the title of the league champions or simply trying to avoid relegation. Just recently a referee awarded a goal to an attacking team when the ball was quite clearly nowhere near the net. It was about to go out for a goal kick. You would think the referee would realise this when the player who was trying to keep the ball in was an attacking player. Why would he try to kick it away from the goal if it was going in???
Other decisions that can affect the outcome of a match are decisions made on sending offs or perhaps even more importantly decisions on penalties where a player may have handled the ball or may or may not have committed a foul on an attacking player.
Surely common sense should come into play and the use of digital technology should be introduced. It will help key decisions to be made correctly.
What do you think?
